What we are, and what we are not

GHFH Limited is registered for four activities: book publishing (SIC 58110), information technology consultancy activities (SIC 62020), activities of patent and copyright agents and other legal activities not elsewhere classified (SIC 69109), and management consultancy activities other than financial management (SIC 70229). It is registered at Empire Square West in London.

Three of those are straightforward. We publish books under written agreements that say who holds which rights, for how long and on what terms. We advise on systems and delivery, and on how an organisation is structured and where its effort actually goes. All of it is written to be read by whoever has to act on it.

The fourth needs stating in plain words, because the classification covers things we do not do. GHFH is not a firm of solicitors and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. No person here is a registered patent attorney, a registered trade mark attorney, a solicitor or a barrister, and we do not use those titles. We do not give legal advice, we do not carry on any reserved legal activity under the Legal Services Act 2007, and we do not advise on or act in applications or proceedings before the Intellectual Property Office or any court or tribunal.

What we do under that heading is administrative: handling permissions, licences and records for the titles we publish, keeping documents in order, and diarising dates. Where a matter needs advice or representation, it goes to a properly qualified and regulated person who is not us, and we will say so at the point we see it rather than later.

We would rather lose a piece of work than take one we are not entitled to do.
